Open Question: will i make it in chicago?

24 July 2010, 11:50 am

This fall I will be a 20 year old junior in college at the University of Iowa. I have lived in Iowa City my entire life and I am looking for a change (I have a very adventurous side) and the U of I doesn't offer the major I want, so, in the spring I am planning to transfer to Depaul University's College of Commerce (located by the loop). Not only do I want to go to school in Chicago, but I want to start my life in Chicago. Will it be possible for me to find a job, being a 20 year old undergrad with only a year and a half of work exp.? I would probably take a lot of night classes if I had to. Would I be able to find a decent apartment for a good price and in a decent neighborhood? Do I have to have a roomate or can I do it solo? Would it just be to difficult to balance work, life, and school in a foreign place? Would I survive :)? And also, what neighborhoods should I look into that would provide the best, safest housing with the best price and good transportation? Bklyn_40: that might be the worst answer I have ever received on Yahoo Answers. Let me tell you that I haven't looked in to every little detail of making a move to Chicago. I came on here asking if it were possible for a person like me to live successfully in Chicago. I wasn't coming on here to ask if I was ready to live on my own, because I already know that I am (I have lived in Thessaloniki, Greece by myself for 4 months and in a small city of about 60000 about an hour or two away from my parents) A good price on an apartment would be relative to other areas of Chicago. And since I am not from Chicago, I can not answer it myself, I do not know the neighborhoods. I really doubt you actually read my question, or if you did, you're a stuck up bitch that has nothing better to do than get on yahoo answers and criticize other people because of your own inadequacies. Go get a life and fuck off.... Read More »
