I will be taking my quarter horse mare to iowa in the fall of 2011 and im concerned about the weather and her adjusting. I am attending Iowa State University this year and will be moving up their after a year of attending and i am going to bring her. My real concern is blanketing her. She is a hard weight keeper and also doesn't grow a thick coat at all. I feel safer if i blanket her. But i have no past experience in blanketing horses. Can anyone help me? I will be riding her a lot when i more hopefully joining a rodeo team of some sort. I have looked into some blankets and noticed all types of materials, weights, sheets, stable blankets, coolers, ect.. Also if anyone can give me any more advice about the change i would love your help. im not sure on where i am going to keep here. i really doubt i will be able to pasture her though unless i get lucky and find a good place for her to stay. the only place that i know of to keep her is at the ISU rodeo ground in which they allow the club to board for a really good price. also what about after i ride her? should i put a cooler on until she dries off? thank you everyone . this really helps a lot :)...
